In both statements for A the motivation is coming from moving "away" from an undesirable situation (a motivation arising from a "pain" thought).
In both statements for B the motivation is coming from moving "towards" a desirable situation (a motivation arising from a "pleasure" thought).
All motivation can be tracked back to either coming from pain or pleasure.
